Attendance

Regular school attendance gives children the best opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Good attendance supports academic achievement, builds confidence and resilience, and helps children develop the skills they need for later life.

At Glebeland Primary School, we value every child and are committed to working closely with families to support excellent attendance. We recognise that there can be challenges which affect a child’s ability to attend school regularly, and we aim to identify and address these as early as possible.

If attendance becomes a concern, we will contact parents to understand the reasons and discuss any support that may be needed. Where appropriate, attendance information may also be shared with the Local Authority. Our approach is child-centred, focusing on positive relationships and practical support to help children access their education.

We may use the Early Help process to work alongside families and provide support before concerns escalate. Attendance summaries are shared with parents each half term, and live attendance information can be accessed at any time through the Arbor app.

We also encourage families to seek advice and support from the School Nursing Service and other local services where appropriate.

How We Promote Good Attendance

At Glebeland Primary School, we promote strong attendance and punctuality by:

  • Working in partnership with parents and carers.

  • Providing accurate, up-to-date attendance information through Arbor.

  • Helping children develop positive habits and responsibility for attendance.

  • Maintaining clear communication between home and school.

  • Identifying barriers to attendance and offering appropriate support.

  • Monitoring attendance and punctuality closely.

  • Following up absences promptly and consistently.

  • Supporting pupils who may be experiencing difficulties that affect attendance.

Our Graduated Attendance Process

Where attendance falls below expected levels, the following steps may be taken:

  • Attendance falls to 95% – attendance information letter sent home.

  • Attendance falls to 92% – further communication if there has been no improvement.

  • Meeting with parents/carers to discuss concerns and support.

  • Attendance Action Plan agreed and reviewed over a four-week period.

  • Review meeting to assess progress.

  • If attendance does not improve, further intervention may be considered in line with statutory guidance.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s attendance, please contact Emma Davies, Headteacher.
