Glebeland Primary School

Wonderful World Book Week

We have been up to so many different activities this World Book week!

We all dressed up on Thursday, World Book Day, as characters from our chosen book 'Charlie Cook's Favourite Book'.

We had a range of characters enter the building on Thursday, including a jewel thief, some scary ghosts, a couple of pesky Goldilocks, and even a Knight riding a dragon.

Thank you so much for dressing up and getting into character – it was lovely to see such enthusiasm! Thank you to the adults at home for all of your effort and hard work!

A special shoutout to Miss Jermy (the Queen’s cake maker) for making such delicious cakes for our Glebeland children to take home!

There have been so many lovely activities taking place across the school this week. In Art, everyone worked together to create character puppets that could be included in ‘Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book’. Then, we created mini-stories and settings about a journey the character could go on.

In Snowy Owls, we learned a pirate shanty dance and took part in an outdoor scavenger hunt to locate lots of Julia Donaldson Characters – including the Gruffalo!

In Red Kites, we wrote a retelling of ‘Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book’ – considering our own favourite books and the journeys that different characters embark on. We focused on a page of the book – the astronaut in space, eating a slice of the Queen’s cake, and created our own space-themed artwork. We also baked the Queen’s cake!

Every day this week, we have mixed our pupils up in order to do some peer reading. It was lovely to see the older ones reading with the younger ones. We also did a teacher swap at the end of the day – with different adults reading with different groups. It has been wonderful exploring lots of different texts with each other.

Thank you so much to everyone who made it to our reading café. The children were very excited about reading with their adults!
